“Guillermo Monroy (Vigo, 1954-1982) was one of those young artists who, in the early eighties, formed the Atlántica group, living history and founding nucleus of the movement that meant the most radical renewal of artistic practices in our community, a history before which Guillermo will remain eternally young, after his premature death in 1982, before turning thirty.
A life cut short by an unfortunate accident that left us with a unique and unrepeatable artistic production. In a decade of intense work and full dedication to painting, Guillermo Monroy will develop an artistic project of unusual maturity and coherence that seems to deny the extreme youth of its creator. His legacy consists of a large number of canvases and drawings on paper, hundreds of sketches and sketches; painting applied on all kinds of supports: canvas, paper, cardboard and found containers, as if –especially in his last years– a dark presentiment pushed him towards a tireless creative activity governed by the will to give his life to painting”.
